Batik as the Cultural Heritage of Indonesia

History of batik in Indonesia is closely linked with the development and dissemination of the Majapahit Kingdom of Hindu in Java.

In some records, the development of batik was mostly done in times of Mataram Kingdom of Islam, and then continued by Solo and Yogyakarta Kingdom.

In the 17th century, the rulers of Surakarta and Yogyakarta even issued decree that people shall wear batik dress in court.

In European literature, batik technique was mentioned in the book of History of Java (London, 1817) written by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, who was the British Governor of Java during Holland occupation. During that time, the smoother, mill made textiles from Europe replaced the Javanese hand woven textile.

Now, Batik has become part of culture in Indonesia traditional clothing.

I love Indonesian Batik, what about you ?
